Five Reasons Recruits Should Choose Miami (UM) over Florida (UF)!

The University of Florida and the University of Miami have a big rivalry over sunshine state supremacy, when you add Florida State to the mix you have a state bred for college football. The University of Florida has been more successful in recent years during the Tim Tebow era, but now that Tebow is going the Gators are primed for a decline.
This can already be seen as Gainesville native Kevin Nelson, spurned the hometown gators to sign with the University of Miami. The University of Florida coaching staff and even people in the city gave him a hard time about not signing with the Gators, Nelson knows what program is going on the rise over the next four years.
Recruits have a lot of choices of what school to attend, and although the University of Florida has a lot to offer, the University of Miami has a lot to offer as well. Here are five reasons college football recruits should choose the University of Miami over the University of Florida.
- Less Arrested Teammates - People talk about the Miami Hurricanes having players being arrested committing crimes all over Miami. That was a long time ago, and contrary to popular belief the Florida Gators are the U of Felons right now. There have been at least 24 instances where a Gators player faced misdemeanor or felony CHARGES for a crime since 2005. The Miami Hurricanes have less than 5 instances of players being arrested over the same time span.
- Better Chance to Make the NFL – UF has always been a “good” football program that could never beat Alabama. For years their players struggled in the NFL, and it was because of the “Fun and Gun” offense run by Steve Spurrier that kept players in a gimmick system which did not prepare them for the Pros. Urban Meyer has put players at UF in the same situation, and although their numbers have gone up they still have nothing on Miami. Miami currently has 46 players on NFL rosters, while Florida has 31. Miami also has the most tight ends and running backs on NFL rosters currently.
- Better Football Championship History – It does not matter what UF fans say, the University of Miami is still the premiere championship football program in the state of Florida. The University of Miami have Five total National Titles (should be more), while the University of Florida have only three National titles. For all the Naysayers, it’s the wins that count right? Well if it’s the wins that count titles have to be worth much more.
- Proving it On The Field – The Hurricanes lead the all time series with the Florida Gators 28 – 26, the Hurricanes recently had their 6 game win streak over the Gators snapped in 2008. Before that the Hurricanes had not lost to the Gators since 1985, and enjoyed bragging rights over the Gators for nearly 20 years.
- Gainesville vs. South Florida – There is absolutely no comparison here Coral Gables wins hands down, the sunny beaches and more women in bikini’s per mile than any place in the state of Florida. There is so much to do in South Florida, and the best part of it is the variety of different people you are exposed to there. Gainesville is built around the University of Florida, take the school away and you are left with almost nothing. The place is a ghost town when school is not in session, and comparing it to the night life of South Florida is not even fair.
