Michael Vick made Andy Reid’s quarterback decision looks like the right one. Vick threw three touchdown passes, ran for another score and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-3 Sunday.  Vick offered plenty of answers to anyone who criticized Reid’s decision to go with him over Kevin Kolb.  Reid had insisted Kolb would start when he returned from a concussion. But Vick’s play prompted Reid to reverse field Tuesday and stick with Vick, saying the shifty left-hander gives Philadelphia a better chance to win.  He sure did against Jacksonville.  There are many out there who will never forgive Michael Vick for what he did (which is their right), but he has served his time and paid his dues.  Most won’t want to get behind a Michael Vick comeback story because of his crimes, but if he continues to be a model citizen on and off the field this would make a great book and/or movie someday.

The New Jersey Nets’ attempt to acquire Carmelo Anthony is in a holding pattern. The Nets seem to be waiting for the Nuggets to sign off on a deal that would bring Anthony to New Jersey and also involve Charlotte and Utah.  Anthony averaged 28.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in leading the Nuggets (53-29) to their second straight Northwest Division title. The 26-year-old three-time NBA All Star 30.7 points and 8.5 rebounds in the opening round of the playoffs but it was not good enough to prevent Denver from being eliminated by Utah in six games.  The third pick in the first round of the 2003 draft, Anthony has career averages of 24.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.  It is ashame that the state of the NBA these days is for stars to gather on the same teams, this is different from the days where teams accumulated talent and surrounded them with role players to win titles.  Denver is simply cutting their losses by trading Anthony now because they know that he is going to bolt for another team in free agency after the season is over.

Boise State has told anyone who would listen that none of the Big Boys of college football will play them. Already called out by Nebraska for wanting $1 million, Boise State  finds itself under fire again for their “anyone, anytime, anywhere” mentality. This time, the Broncos have been thrown under the bus by the defending national champions. “Boise State has not contacted us,” said Alabama  athletic director Mal Moore. It may not seem like ‘Bama’s throwin’ down entirely, but the Tide is now the second program to say that the Broncos have not tried to schedule a game with them.  (cnnsi.com)  So what does this really mean?  Has Boise State been handpicking it’s BCS conference opponents and targeting teams it matched up well against?  Until Boise plays a team with a tradition of winning national titles (Oregon, Oregon State, Virginia Tech do not) then the argument of do they belong will continue to persist.

On College Football Final Mark May said that NC State was the best team in the ACC because they are 4 – 0 and beat Georgia Tech 45 – 28 on Saturday. Lou Holtz disagreed with him and stated that Florida State and Miami were better teams than the Wolfpack.  If you look at it Miami and Florida State only have one loss each to top 10 teams.  Miami lost to #2 Ohio State, and Florida State lost to #8 Oklahoma both games were on the road.  NC State may be undefeated, but they have beaten Western Carolina, UCF, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech which are all unranked teams.  Not sure what the basis for Mark May’s claims were, yes Russell Wilson was impressive, but that does not mean the entire team is the best in the conference.

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys soundly defeated the Houston Texans in Reliant stadium, and with the win erased any criticism that this team had lost the ability to win big games. The much maligned Roy Williams scored caught two touchdown passes, and the the Cowboys offense operated on all cylinders.  Tony Romo exposed the weak secondary play of the Houston Texans, and the Cowboys defense held the Texans offense in check for the entire game.  What this win did not lay to rest was the question of is Wade Phillips a coach that can lead a team to a Super Bowl.  It is almost a bad sign that the Cowboys just “turned on” the talent and dominated the Texans after failing to play well in previous weeks.  It will be interesting to see how the season is going to play out in Big D.
