The NFL Preseason Has Begun, And Cam Newton Debuts With The Panthers
The NFL returned on Thursday night with the start of preseason football action. The games have taken place all throughout the weekend and many Americans are rejoicing at the fact that football has returned. On Saturday night we saw the debut of Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn. Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn, twice failed to get the Panthers into the end zone on promising first-half drives. But he also brought some big-play potential to the Panthers offense that lacked that dimension to their offense last season. Newton completed 8 of 19 throws for 134 yards, including a pair of completions of at least 30 yards. Newton played until early in the fourth quarter before giving way to veteran reserve Derek Anderson. There have been worse debuts than Newton’s and the two 30-yard completions showed a lot of promise.
