Sometimes people have to eat their own words, and it’s a shame when a man looks bad for losing it in a moment of extreme emotion. That is the case with Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said this two years ago, “THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE. You can take it to the bank.” Well Gilbert is eating his words of course since the Cavaliers have not been very good since Lebron left town, and for that Gilbert is going to get his obligatory introduction into the Hall of Fail.
Can you imagine what Gilbert was doing as he saw the Heat reel off three wins in a row to go up 3 – 1 and then watched them blow the game open in Game 4 knowing the title was theirs? Gilbert hasn’t been as successful as he is founding Quicken Loans without taking risks and making some mistakes along the way, so it’s highly doubtful he was sulking as Lebron hoisted the trophy above his head. Gilbert in fact faces a tough challenge because stars don’t want to play in Cleveland, and the ones they do draft don’t end up staying when they become a free agent.
One can understand Gilberts reaction when the value of his franchise dipped by about $140 million upon James’s departure from Cleveland. But with that being said you don’t expect that kind of behavior from an owner, so Dan Gilbert welcome to the Hall of Fail!
