Floyd “money” Mayweather proved on Saturday night that he is the best pound for pound fighter in boxing by destroying “Sugar” Shane Mosley in a 12 round decision. “Money” Mayweather is 41 – 0 having never been defeated in his entire boxing career, I hear people talking about other fighters but the guy has never lost.
The reason Saturday was so impressive is people talked about how Mosley’s speed and power were the correct combination of skills that would be needed to knock Floyd Mayweather out. Well let me tell you he dominated Mosley, and the misconception that people have is if a fighter does not knock out everyone he someone is barely beating them.
Anyone that saw the fight on Saturday knows that was not a close fight, Mayweather won 11 of the 12 rounds on two judges’ score cards and 10 of 12 on another. I call that pure domination from start to finish, and the doubters will point to the solid right hand Mosley landed in the second round that almost put “Money” Mayweather on the canvas.
That is one lucky shot in a boxing match that had hundreds of punches, and Mayweather landed the lions share of them. He punished and battered Mosley round after round never coming close to knocking him out, but as the fight wore on you could visibly see that the physical beating had taken it’s toll on Mosley.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather likes to put on a show, and that is the reason his fights go 12 rounds. He tactically dismantles his opponents, and people often say he avoids contact and runs away playing more of a defensive style. It is called adjusting to your opponent, and if you are fighting someone good then you should be able to adjust after that and take them down. That is the brilliance in Mayweather’s 41 – 0 streak he has adjusted too and fought many different opponents without losing.
This quote from Mosley illustrates he point, “I caught him with my big right hand and I tried to move around but by that time he was too quick and I was too tight,” Mosley said. “After the right hand I thought I needed to knock him out and I needed to do it sooner than later. But I couldn’t adjust and he did.”
Mayweather took control of the fight and refused to let Mosley dictate the pace after that second round right hand almost floored Mayweather. Inevitably Mayweather and Pacquiao are going to have to fight; they are on a collision course. They are the two most dominant fighters in boxing right now, and with both of them displaying recent dominating performances a fight has to be scheduled sooner rather than later.
