The tale of Lawrence Taylor took another ugly turn on Thursday morning, Taylor who is an NFL Hall of Famer has now found himself in hot water with the police again. It is known that Taylor seems to have bad judgment, so many will not be surprised, but the nature of the crime seems a bit heinous.
According to many news outlets, the former Giants linebacker and NFL Hall of Famer was arrested on rape charges early this morning. What we do know is that the incident occurred early Thursday morning at a Holiday Inn in Ramapo, N.Y.
ESPN updated the story, stating the Taylor was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl and will be charged with third-degree rape, which includes sex with a minor. Taylor was taken into custody a few hours later.
Enter Rasheed Davis, a 36-year-old parolee, was arrested in the case on charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said the girl had been staying with Davis in the Bronx for a few weeks. He beat her up, drove her to the Holiday Inn and told her she had to have sex with Taylor, police said. When she refused, Davis handed her over to Taylor, who sexually assaulted her, they said. Taylor paid her $300, which she gave to Davis, police said.
Davis “struck the young girl with his fist, kicked her and brought her to the Holiday Inn against her will,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. Now how the young girl ended up staying with this 36 year old man in the first place is beyond me.
Its seems on the way back, the victim sent text messages to her uncle spelling out what happened. The uncle then went to the NYPD, where they issued an arrest warrant for Taylor and picked him up.
No doubt that Taylor’s defense will be that he simply made a mistake and paid for the services of a prostitute, and had no way of knowing she was underage. But, it remains to be seen how the courts are going to view this, but either way it will be a black eye for one of the best linebackers to ever play the game.
