UFC 117 was not loaded with huge headliners, the main even Silva vs. Sonnen was a good fight, but it was not going to draw the casual fans and pay per view buys alone. They put “Big Country” Roy Nelson on the card, the fat out of shape Nelson who won a season on the ultimate fighter, so he would help bring in the casual fans. They also put Matt Hughes on the card, who is in the latter part of his career, but still draws in the crowd. Most of the fights were solid and even match... [Read more]

As fans of Anderson Silva prepare to watch UFC 117, they have to be wondering what type of performance they are going to get out of the champion. Sliva has been untouchable for the most part in his career, and has dispatched some very good fighters along the way. He can put on dominant performances and wow UFC fans with his ability and talent while embarrassing his opponents, or he can dance and prance around the octagon as if it were a recital. Surely, both types of performances grant him attention.... [Read more]

UFC 116 went down on Saturday, and coming out of it everyone is talking about the Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin fight. That was the headline bout of course, so that type of chatter is to be expected. As in typical UFC fashion they played up this dramatic story, so that it would seemingly have a story book ending to increase the ratings and popularity of the product. As everyone knows by now this was the first time Brock Lesnar has fought in over a year because of his bought with Diverticulitis,... [Read more]

The UFC’s reality show, The Ultimate Fighter which shows on Spike TV, has come to a conclusion with its 11th season. The final chapter was closed on the middleweight saga at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas with a story book ending, and the entire season was riddled with controversy which you would expect from Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. The most notable development—the catalyst for Liddell vs. Franklin at UFC 115—was the dishonorable discharge of Tito Ortiz’ services on the show due... [Read more]

Sometimes the best laid plans never seem to work, and maybe in some cases they were not a good idea to begin with. With the UFC 115 main event this Saturday, Chuck Liddell (21-7) will step back into the cage against Rich Franklin (26-5). This wasn’t supposed to be the headliner fight, but after all is said and done, the fans will get a better fight than the original would have been. During the Ultimate Fighter season 10 Finale, Dana White announced that bitter rivals Chuck Liddell and Tito... [Read more]

We all watched with anticipation on Saturday night after months of hype over the Rashad Evans vs Quinton “Rampage” Jackson fight at UFC 114. Well the fight started off exciting enough as Rashad Evans rocked Rampage with a hard right hand that sent him stumbling across the ring. After that though the fight turned into a Rashad Evans take down fest, with Rampage providing a few hard shots sprinkled throughout the rest of the fight. Neither of them was ever in any real danger of being... [Read more]

Floyd “money” Mayweather proved on Saturday night that he is the best pound for pound fighter in boxing by destroying “Sugar” Shane Mosley in a 12 round decision. “Money” Mayweather is 41 – 0 having never been defeated in his entire boxing career, I hear people talking about other fighters but the guy has never lost. The reason Saturday was so impressive is people talked about how Mosley’s speed and power were the correct combination of skills that would be needed to knock Floyd... [Read more]

The show opens with Floyd Money Mayweather telling Mosley that he’s definitely talented, but Money Mayweather is “god-gifted”. Naazim Richardson says that Floyd Mayweather was protected in the streets because his dad and uncle were fighters. I’m trying to remember when Floyd said he was a street fighter. Shane comments that Floyd barks the most when he is intimidated as he did prior to the De La Hoya fight and he feels Floyd is intimidated by him. Team Mosley watched old fight tapes of Money... I am still in shock that “The Prodigy” B.J. Penn lost his fight at UFC 112. I am sure it left a sour taste in his mouth, after losing a decision to heavy underdog Frankie Edgar. Penn has been regarded for years as one of the best fighters in MMA, but Edgar seemed to not be intimidated. Using superior conditioning and speed Edgar was able to outwork his Penn, notably in the latter rounds, and take a unanimous decision. As with most fights featuring a star losing to an underdog, there... [Read more]
