I always thought Roy Williams was a fool, he was always that player who made dumb comments to the media and didn’t back it up on the field. Like when he was in Detroit and he used to talk about how he guarantees that the Lions were going to the Super Bowl, or last year when he said it wasn’t “even close” who the best receiver on the Cowboys was. All this coming from a guy who might be a salary cap casualty once the new CBA is signed.

He out did himself this time though, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams is reportedly suing his ex-girlfriend, 2009 Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels, for $76,000. The reason? It’s over an engagement ring he mailed to her proposing marriage on a taped DVD. (Yes, a taped DVD marriage proposal), after she declined his wedding proposal she kept the ring (was that even in doubt).

She allegedly refused to return the ring to Williams, and then later told him that she lost it (yeah right). Williams who knows he is probably going to get cut filed a claim with his insurance company after Daniels claimed the ring was lost. However, the insurance company found that the ring was not lost and now it is a matter of whether or not the ring was a gift.

We all know it was a gift that was contingent on whether Daniels agreed to marry Williams or not. Cooler heads have prevailed as Daniel’s father has agreed to return the ring to avoid further legal issues, and a fairly dumb situation that would get a bunch of attention for no reason. Did she really think that she was going to say know, and he was just going to let her keep the $76,000.00 ring? Even Roy Williams is not that dumb.

Sending a $76,000 ring by mail, and proposing on a taped DVD is probably the dumbest way anyone every proposed. Maybe Roy knew she was going to say no, and he was scared of the possible rejection. The fact that they only dated for a year, and were not currently together made it even weirder. Roy, for your awkward proposal and generally doing dumb things we are inducting you to the Hall of Fail. Welcome to the Hall!

Rashard Mendenhall has been one of the most consistent running backs in the NFL for the last few years, and has been on eof the main reason teh Pittsburgh Steelers have enjoyed a nice run the last few years. Mendenhall is an interesting character as it came out last year that he took ballet classes to help him make moves on the field and elude defenders.

Recently Mendenhall has made news of another sort, after the news of Osama Bin Laden’s assasination by U.S. forces Mendenhall took to Twitter to voice his opinion.

“R_Mendenhall Rashard Mendenhall
What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

“R_Mendenhall Rashard Mendenhall
For those of you who said you want to see Bin Laden burn in hell and piss on his ashes, I ask how would God feel about your heart?”

Mendenhall also made a tweet about how the World Trade Centers fell, and questioned how a plane could take them down. Mendenhall removed that particular tweet because it started to stir up a lot of controversy. One thing is for sure he doesn’t have an issue putting his opinion out there.

He tweeted earlier a few other interesting tidbits:

“R_Mendenhall Rashard Mendenhall
Whenever you see a man and wonder “why hes with her?” it’s cause she do things that you won’t! #NASTY”

“R_Mendenhall Rashard Mendenhall
Going down on your man IS optional. It’s either gonna be you, OR some other chick. #choosewisely”

Rashard welcome to the Hall of Fail! Stay the hell of Twitter. When are athletes going to learn that everything they do and say is under a microscope, and Twitter does them no favors. Mendenhall is standing up for his views now, but his Tweets were posted on ESPN, and I am sure he will be booed at some point during the season.

The Tweets about women which now will receive more attention, are a very good way to piss off any female fans you did have. If Mendenhall was on slate for any endorsement deals he just burned up any chance of getting those anytime soon, the backlash has already been harsh. Mendenhall is a good football player, but he needs to hire a public relations firm to help him prevent these mistakes.

People often think that they can look at a person and tell if they are a criminal, and if they are capable of committing a crime. This is often the case when you have young teenage kids in the mall walking around in stores, the workers generally associate a higher risk of theft with these individuals and pay more attention to them. That is understandable, but the truth is anyone is capable of committing a crime even something as petty as shoplifting, and that apparently does not exclude pitchers on Major league baseball teams.

Reds pitcher Mike Leake was arrested on a shoplifting charge at a downtown department store Monday, accused of trying to steal six shirts with a total value of $59.88. The 23-year-old starter was booked at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of shoplifting. It carries a maximum of 180 days in jail.

The worst part about this is that Leake was arrested two hours before he was supposed to report to the ballpark for a game with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Police arrest reports said Leake removed the price tags from six American Rag T-shirts at a Macy’s store and tried to leave without paying for them. Leake makes $425,000 in his second season in the majors. To add insult to injury Leake just received a $2 million dollar signing bonus, and a check for $40,000 just before the arrest.

This makes absolutely no sense; the shirts were valued at a total price of $59.88. Who goes into a store and steals six “cheap” shirts when they are making a six figure income? Leake was told by his lawyer to keep his mouth shut about the incident, but it really makes one wonder what he could have been thinking. The value of those shirts was much less than 1% of his yearly salary, and he is basically putting his career on the line for that? Maybe he kept the amount he was stealing low because he knows if it’s less than $100 dollars it basically a misdemeanor. Mike Leake because of the sheer stupidity of this incident you are being inducted into the Hall Of Fail, welcome to the Hall!

The sage of the University of Florida penal colony continues as Gainesville Police arrested former standout Gator wide receiver Louis Morris Murphy Jr. early Sunday morning. Murphy was charged with possession of a drug without a valid prescription, and failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence which are all misdemeanors.

Murphy, who plays for the Oakland Raiders, was taken into custody just after midnight. Gainesville Police Officer Thomas Harrison said he spotted Murphy’s Cadillac Escalade at 100 SW First St., with the stereo playing loudly. Harrison said he told Murphy to pull over, but then Murphy continued driving to a city parking lot, where he and his passengers got out of the SUV and walked away.

Harrison said Murphy refused to present identification and demanded to know why Harrison stopped him. Harrison said Murphy continued to refuse to show his ID and so Harrison attempted to place him in handcuffs, but, he said, Murphy refused to put his hands behind his back. It took three officers to place the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound NFL player into custody.

Harrison said Murphy consented to a search of his vehicle, where officers found a “non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra.” Murphy could not provide a prescription for it and allegedly told the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle “because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it.”

Now for the record Murphy is 26 years old, and it is a bit interesting that a person that young would need Viagra. Then he has to hide it from his girlfriend because he does not want her to find out? So, she has to find out by reading it in the newspaper that all that “staying power” her man had is a result of an artificial drug designed for middle aged men trying to get their groove on?

Murphy proved just how out of touch he is, first he resists arrest and has illegal Viagra in his vehicle. Had he just pulled over and let the officer give him a citation for playing his music loudly the Viagra would probably have never been found, and he would have avoided this situation. It’s “Hard” out there for a pimp, not to mention resisting arrest and forcing three officers to handcuff you in the process, because of all of that we are welcoming Louis Murphy Jr. to the Hall Of Fail!

When we were all young we liked to hang out at the mall with our friends, and as people get older they sort of grow out of that behavior. But not Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, he apparently frequents Dallas’s North Park Center which has some of the most exclusive stores in Texas.

Bryant has run into trouble at one of Dallas’ luxury shopping areas, North Park Center. The Dallas Morning News reports that an off-duty police officer issued a criminal trespass warning against the receiver on Saturday after Bryant created a disturbance when mall security asked his group to leave after they refused to pull their pants up and cover their exposed underwear. Local television station WFAA-TV reports that Bryant has been banned from the mall for three months.

A representative for Bryant later told media outlets that Bryant was not issued the warning, that it was Bryant’s friends who had their pants sagging. According to the Morning News, the police report indicates Bryant has has had a number of incidents at North Park, including “a major disturbance” at a P.F. Chang’s with an unknown female and a line-cutting incident at an Apple store. Bryant also was cited for parking in the mall’s fire lane.

Bryant has been nothing but a drama filled problem for the Cowboys since he was drafted, and going to the mall to walk around with your homeboys and shop just seems like something he should probably avoid doing. It’s not like North Park Center is the mall around the corner stuck in the middle of the hood, it’s an upscale mall that rivals Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive. So, he should know that anything he does in there is going to be scrutinized even more because he is a pro-football player, and he should probably avoid anything that is going to draw attention to himself. Dez, welcome to the Hall of Fail because I think this might be the first time a pro-athlete was banned from a shopping mall!

Tiki Barber retired after the 2007 season having played 10 seasons in the NFL all with the New York Giants. In the past few days the person ranked 22nd on the all-time NFL rushing list notified the NFL that he plans to come out of retirement and play football in 2011. The agency that represents Barber confirmed as much on their Twitter account as well, so it looks as if he will in fact come back for an 11th season. The Giants also confirmed that Barber requested to be taken off of the reserve-retirement list, and that they will immediately release him from the team.

This is odd news, Barber was adamant that he was only going to play 10-years when he initially retire in 2007, citing he had other opportunities outside of football that he wanted to pursue. Barber was a hot commodity when he retired as he was asked to host various shows and landed a job on ESPN’s Sunday Night Football crew. Barber started out well as he even criticized his former coach and Quarterback while he was working one of their games, and it seemed that he was on his way to a good career in the media.

Barber’s personal and professional life started to go downhill in a hurry. In April 2010, Barber reportedly left his wife of 11 years, Ginny, for 23-year-old Traci Johnson, a former NBC intern. Ginny was eight months pregnant at the time. Soon after, NBC cited its morals clause and terminated Barber’s contract, which reportedly paid him more than $300,000 per year. This was a relatively stupid move by Barber after not slipping up all of those years he was playing in the NFL only to mess up when you retire and your income is nowhere near what it used to be.

That mistake cost Tiki Barber dearly, his wife pregnant with their children was almost certainly going to come out on top in any sort of divorce proceedings. With his ex-wife’s latest delivery of twins that makes four total children Tiki and Ginny Barber have had together, and if he paid any attention to how fellow pro athletes have fared in this situation he would have known better. He is probably going to be on the hook for at least $16k a month per child, and not telling how much his ex-wife was able to get in alimony. That $300,000 he was making at NBC before he was fired would have made it difficult to foot that bill, so with virtually no income he was going to be walking around a poor man.

Well that’s exactly what is/has happened as people close to Tiki claim his ex-wife was trying to bleed him dry in divorce court. It seems the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed publicly, but everyone has received all the information they need to know. Why would a 35 soon to be 36 year old running back come out of retirement to resume playing the most punished position in football? Teams start dumping running backs when they reach thirty years old, so he may not even get picked up by a team at this point.

The reason is simple MONEY, Barber has dried up all of his media opportunities and is trying to make some fast cash by returning to the NFL. With the league minimum being near $400,000 a year because of his number of years in the league it’s the most lucrative job he can get in such a short period of time. Ginny must have made out well in the court room. Tiki has no one to blame but himself for this situation, and because of that we want to welcome Tiki to the Hall of Fail. The reason is simple he cheated with a 23 year old woman who isn’t going to be there in 5 years, and he put his wife in a powerful position to get paid off of his work even though he has watched fellow ball players get taken to the cleaners by their wives. Sorry Tiki your action made no sense.

We all know players in the NBA like to flop and act like they were fouled, some even say that the NBA is one step away form an acting career. Chris Bosh has long been considered one of the softest big men in the NBA, as a matter of fact Shaq even said that Chris Paul was the Rupaul of big men. Referencing the cross dressing mail entertainer and singer. That was a fairly harsh criticism of Chris Bosh who some considered to be a top 20 player in the NBA, and he was a highly coveted free agent this past off season before he eventually signed with the Miami Heat.

If you were a person who felt that Bosh was an elite tough big man, then the video below should change your opinion fairly quickly. In a game against the Chicago Bulls Bosh is defending the Bulls Carlos Boozer, who appears to elbow Bosh on accident (the video shows he never touched him). Bosh delays for a second or two after the elbow has passed then he simulates his head getting knocked back and throws himself on the court, and appears to be writhing in pain from the Boozer elbow. The only problem is there was no elbow and Bosh went so overboard with the acting it was ridiculous, covering his face, acting like he was partially blinded and barely able to get up. The whole thing was absurd. Because of that Chris Bosh is being inducted into the Hall of Fail, next time Chris make sure the guy actually makes contact before you start your acting job!

The New York Jets win over the New England Patriots was shocking to most people who watched the game. After the Jets were trounced 45 – 3 by the Patriots in early December no one gave the Jets a fighting chance to win that game, but the Rex Ryan and his coaches found a way to get the win. During the game Patriots wide receiver Deion Branch was a non-factor being blanketed by Jets Pro Bowl corner back Darrelle Revis for most of the game.

Branch caught his first ball of the game for a small gain of a few yards and turned to the Jets sideline and started talking trash to the entire team. He was observed on several other occasions getting into the face of Jets players, and just visibly looking like he was instigating a lot of trash talk. This was a direct result of the Jets trash talking towards Tom Brady and the Patriots throughout the entire week, so it apparently struck a nerve with Branch.

After all of that though late in the game with the Patriots trailing and time running out Tom Brady throws the ball to Branch on a 4th and 13 play which Branch subsequently drops. This was a ball right in his hands and a catchable ball that any wide receiver in the NFL should make, but not Branch at this time. That drop sealed a Jet victory for the most part, and the Jets celebrated after the game on New England’s home field.

Branch had strong comments for the Jets after the game calling some of them “classless” for their post game celebration. Branch has discussed the post game incidents at least several times over the course of a few days after the game, and just can’t seem to let it go. The truth of the matter is Branch was the one talking the most trash during the game and he didn’t even back it up. He dropped balls, and was dominated by Revis the entire game, but he has the audacity to conduct several interviews complaining about getting beat by the Jets?

Then this quote from Branch, “Sometimes when you are not supposed to be in certain situations you act that way and that is how some of those guys are,” Branch said. “They aren’t used to being in that position, and this was their Super Bowl. But it wasn’t our Super Bowl. This was probably their Super Bowl and that is probably why they were acting that way.” Branch seems to think that guys who get a big win are not supposed to celebrate, there was a time (like oh the last 4 years in Seattle) when Branch wasn’t winning a damn thing. He has only been good playing with Tom Brady, and was a below average player when he was with the Seahawks. Maybe if he focused more on catching the ball instead of being a sore loser he might still be in the playoffs, Deion Branch Welcome To The Hall!!

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany recently announced the names of the two divisions that will comprise the split within the new conference structure after adding Nebraska as a member. Delany settled on the “Legends” and “Leaders” divisions after deliberating over several possibilities, and commented that basing the names geographically did not make much sense. Here is how the new divisions break down in the “new” Big Ten:

Legends _______ Leaders

Nebraska Illinois
Michigan Indiana
Michigan State Ohio State
Minnesota Penn State
Iowa Purdue
Northwestern Wisconsin

There was a heavy negative fan reaction to the new names, and it has Delany thinking of changing the names to something different. Here was his reasoning behind selecting those names, “The conference chose the divisions based on parity, rather than geography, which made naming them East-West or North-South impractical. The Big Ten also considered using names of historic players or coaches, that would have been “too limiting.”"

The fans who are upset over the name have a legitimate gripe, how do you designate some programs as “leaders” while others are “legends”? Those two names can be interpreted any number of ways, so depending on what school you are at the name may be offensive to you. Delany said that doing geographical names did not make sense, but in many sports conferences those geographical names never do. Teams move around so much that geographical divisions are always getting a bit skewed, and I do give him credit for trying to think outside of the box.

People may adjust to the new names at some point, but putting out a fan poll to see what names or suggestions might have been more popular would have been the best course of action. After all Delany said that his goal is to build fan bases, so what would have fostered excitement and loyalty more than the fans having the opportunity to name the divisions of the conference that their team plays in? Welcome to the Hall of Fail Jim Delany, although your heart was in the right place your execution was poor.

This has to be one of the funniest/oddest stories in quite some time. Of course we have heard plenty of stories about drunk college kids doing odd and crazy things over the years. But I think this guy might take the cake from all of them, I will say it is good he did not get killed with what he did.

An Oregon State University offensive lineman has been dismissed from the team after police say they found him naked and intoxicated in a stranger’s home and had to use stun guns to take him into custody. Corvallis police say they received the call about a naked intruder early Sunday.

Responding officers ordered 19-year-old Tyler Patrick Thomas of Kalispell, Mont., to get on the ground, Lt. Tim Brewer said. Thomas refused and instead dropped into a three-point stance like a football player and lunged at the officers, Brewer said. At that point, he said, two officers fired their stun guns. Yes, you heard correctly he got down in a three point stance like he was about to block for a running play, said “hike” and lunged at armed police officers. He must have been lit up really good, because I don’t think many people would do that even with alcohol in them.

Thomas was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Benton County jail and later released. Oregon State head coach Mike Riley dismissed Thomas from the team Monday, OSU athletics spokesman Steve Fenk said. Thomas redshirted during the Beavers’ 2009 season.

The other point here is why was he in some random persons house naked in the first place? How did he get there? It is safe to say that he must have been intruding in a woman’s apartment looking for some companionship, there isn’t really any other explanation for the kid being naked in someone’s home. On the pure power of the kid losing his scholarship and getting arrested for one of the oddest incidents ever, we are going to induct him into the Hall of Fail. Tyler Patrick Thomas we hope that you land on your feet somewhere (clothed of course), but in the meantime Welcome To The Hall!
