UFC President Dana White has taken the next step to move the UFC from a niche sport to prime time. White has brokered a seven year contract with Fox networks, and at the same time come to a mutual agreement to close their dealings with Spike TV. Spike TV will still air the 14th season of the UFC's The Ultimate Fighters reality TV show which will start in September. The UFC has become the industry name for Mixed Martial Arts, people don't even say MMA anymore they just say UFC. It's still unclear if the sport is ever going to be able to compete with the popularity of boxing decades ago, people seem to be a lot more geared towards team sports these days. This will no doubt be lucrative for the UFC who keeps purchasing their competition rather than competing, so this venture will probably be a success.

12 Current Miami Hurricanes Have A Cloudy Future This Season .

Although the Miami Hurricanes football program has a very public scandal going on, there is still a season to play starting Sept. 5th. Miami has several key players who might be deemed ineligible to play, the quarterback position is the biggest one in questions. The accusation that Jacory Harris is one of 12 current Hurricanes who allegedly broke NCAA rules by accepting gifts from rogue booster Nevin Shapiro is overshadowing just about everything that happened on the field during training camp. If Miami uses any player later deemed ineligible by the NCAA, then the Hurricanes run the risk of having to retroactively forfeit games. If the Hurricanes sit those 12 players, most of whom are presumptive starters and in many cases expected to be NFL draft picks next year, then their chances of winning in 2011 plummet quickly. Al Golden is faced with several tough decisions to start his first season coaching the Hurricanes.

With so much talk about holdouts and contract signings since the NFL lockout ended, it's always good to see a contract situation workout for both sides. The Arizona Cardinals and Larry Fitzgerald have agreed to an eight-year deal that could pay the star receiver as much as $120 million, making it one of the richest deals in the NFL. The agreement, with guarantees near $50 million, is by far the biggest in the franchise's history. Fitzgerald's contract with the Cardinals run through the 2018 season. It is not known whether the deal contains the kind of terms that gave him huge leverage over the team under its current deal - specifically a ban on making him a franchise player and a no-trade clause. The Cardinals have definitely changed their image of being a cheap team that didn't want to spend any money, with the signing of Kevin Kolb and Fitzgerald's deal this organization has made a commitment to win.

The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team got into a bench clearing brawl with a basketball team affiliated with China's military while on a goodwill tour. The officials started calling a high number of fouls on the Hoyas, and the Chinese team seemingly had hardly any fouls called on them. This led to the brawl after one of Georgetown's players was fouled hard to the court. A brawl followed where the video showed Chinese players hitting Georgetown players with chairs, and fans throwing water bottles at the Hoyas as they exited the arena. Georgetown coach John Thompson III said he has made peace with the coach of a Chinese basketball team over a bench-clearing brawl and denies the melee carried any political connotations. Thompson said Saturday that he met with the Bayi Rockets' coach on Friday and they shook hands and chatted about basketball and other matters. Thompson doesn't think the brawl in Beijing on Thursday had any political overtones.

Cam Newton To Start Third Preseason Game, Is It His Position To Lose?

You see a lot of young players getting significant playing time during the NFL preseason. Cam Newton will start Carolina's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Sunday that Newton will play the first three quarters on Thursday night against the Bengals, but that doesn't mean the rookie quarterback will be the starter in the Sept. 11 season opener. Head coach Ron Rivera seems to be waffling on whether he should ultimately name Newton the starter because he initially said that whomever started the third preseason game would be the opening day starter, but now that has apparently changed. We all know that Cam Newton will be the starter by the end of the season, why doesn't Rivera just admit it.

Texas A&M Wanted The SEC, But They SEC Decides To Stay With 12 Teams

What seems to be a common occurrence these days a lot of rumor and talk about college football realignment was swirling this week? The rumor started with Texas A&M apparently headed to the SEC because they are disgruntled with the deal that Texas was able to broker with the Big 12. The rumor expanded to say that the SEC was going to expand to 16 teams adding Clemson, Missouri, and Florida State to the mix to create a 16 team conference. The Texas A&M move was talked about as basically a done deal, but the SEC presidents met on Sunday and said they are good with their 12 team league as it is for now. They did leave the door open for future expansion, but stopped short of named a timeline or plans for any specific schools. Texas A&M initiated the discussion with the SEC, and both sides discussed the process but no invitation was extended to the Aggies. It seems that the Big 12 is destined to disappear for good, it's only a matter of time before the teams leave for good.

Kimbo Slice Makes His Boxing Debut

Kimbo Slice, the former street fighter turned MMA fighter who has been out of the fight game since the UFC cut him 15 months ago, stepped into the ring for his first professional boxing match on Saturday night. It went about as well as he could have hoped. According to multiple accounts of the bout posted on Twitter, Kimbo knocked out his opponent, a man named James Wade, in just 17 seconds. Kimbo was fighting a stiff, but the reason people watch him fight is because he knocks people out. Even though the UFC tried to promote him, that was not the style that is optimal for Kimbo's abilities. Kimbo is a guy that “throws hands" all of that grappling and Jujitsu just get in the way of his natural abilities. If you search around You Tube you can find a video of the fight, it was nothing spectacular, and Kimbo will probably be nothing more than a sideshow in the boxing game.

After going 3 for 3 yesterday and possibly knocking Carlos Zabrano into retirement, Uggla struggled and went 0 for 3 with an RBI. His hitting streak this season was the longest hitting streak in major league baseball in five years, back then Philadelphia's Chase Utley had a 35-game hitting streak.
The NFL Preseason Has Begun, And Cam Newton Debuts With The Panthers

The NFL returned on Thursday night with the start of preseason football action. The games have taken place all throughout the weekend and many Americans are rejoicing at the fact that football has returned. On Saturday night we saw the debut of Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn. Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn, twice failed to get the Panthers into the end zone on promising first-half drives. But he also brought some big-play potential to the Panthers offense that lacked that dimension to their offense last season. Newton completed 8 of 19 throws for 134 yards, including a pair of completions of at least 30 yards. Newton played until early in the fourth quarter before giving way to veteran reserve Derek Anderson. There have been worse debuts than Newton's and the two 30-yard completions showed a lot of promise.
